Good for beginners

I tried the introductory pottery workshop last month. Registering online was straightforward, took maybe 5 minutes. The confirmation email arrived right away with all the details. When I got there, the studio was clean, and they had all the tools and clay ready. The instructor was really patient, explained everything clearly. My piece turned out pretty good for a first-timer, picked it up about 3 weeks later. The only small thing was finding parking nearby, but that's Chicago for you. Overall, a good experience and I might sign up for a full class.

Smooth gift card purchase

Got a ceramic gift card for my sister's birthday. The process was super quick on the website. She used it for a pottery date night and said it was a blast. Good quality gift card, easy to redeem online. No fuss at all, worked exactly as it should.

Always a good experience

I signed up for the 8-week wheel throwing class again. It's always a solid experience. Booking was easy, just like before. The instructors are consistently helpful, and the studio space is well-maintained. Never had an issue with any of my previous classes either.

Anyone know if you need to bring your own tools for the introductory workshops? Or are they provided?

D Donna Mitchell 1 week ago
Tools are provided for workshops! You don't need to bring anything. If you get serious, then maybe think about buying your own kit later.

Nah, they have all the basic tools you need. Just show up ready to get messy!

Does anyone know if they do student discounts for the 8-week wheel throwing class? I'm a full-time student and every bit helps.

B Brittany Roberts 2 weeks ago
I think they do! I saw something about it on their site a while back. Definitely worth asking them directly or checking the FAQ section.

Yes, they absolutely have student discounts! I used one for my handbuilding class last semester. Just gotta show your student ID or have an edu email for registration, I think.

How does Penguin Foot compare to Lillstreet Art Center? I'm trying to decide where to take my next class.

A Anthony A. 1 day ago
Penguin Foot is smaller, more intimate feel. Lillstreet is huge, lots more options but can feel a bit overwhelming. For pottery specifically, Penguin Foot instructors are super hands-on.

I've taken classes at both. Penguin Foot feels a bit more personal, especially for beginners. Lillstreet has a wider variety of classes beyond pottery, if you're into that. For just pottery, I lean towards Penguin Foot.

Thinking of taking the pottery date night class. Is it suitable for total beginners or do you need some experience?

K Karen R. 2 weeks ago
Oh yeah, totally beginner friendly! My partner and I did it and neither of us had ever touched a wheel before. The instructors are super patient.

What's the deal with their Black Friday sales? I'm hoping to get a gift card for my sister for Christmas.

S Sofia Garcia 1 month ago
They usually have a Black Friday sale on gift certificates. I got one last year and it was a pretty good deal, like $20 off a $100 card or something similar. Keep an eye out around November.

Yep, they do Black Friday. Mostly on gift cards for courses, not usually on individual workshops though, if that makes sense.
